1. On Tuesday of each week we take the DOE (Department of Energy) national average for the cost of 1 gallon of diesel fuel. For example, the DOE Average was $2.817 per gallon the week on 6/05/2007. 2. We calculate our fuel surcharge (FSC). For this week our FSC for Specialized/Flatbed was $.32 per loaded mile and the FSC for our Vans division was $.28. 3. We take the average mpg we get from our fleet. This is about 6 mpg. (Your actual mileage may vary.) 4. By multiplying the FSC for Specialized/Flatbed $.32 times the average mpg 6 we get $1.92 per gallon fuel surcharge. By multiplying the FSC for Van fleet $.28 times the average mpg 6 we get $1.68 per gallon fuel surcharge 5. Now we subtract the fuel surcharge which is paid directly to our owner operators and lease drivers weekly, from the DOE Average for the week ($2.817) and the actual cost of fuel to ATS owner operators and lease drivers is: Specialized/Flatbed $0.897 or Van fleet $1.137   In addition, owner operators and lease drivers can save additional $/gallon by using our network of ATS approved fuel providers, making your cost per gallon even lower.   That’s an average of $1.02 per gallon.
